Rice products

Vietnam is a country with exceptional comparative advantages in rice production. At present, the rice sector plays an important role in Vietnam’s social and economic development, and rice lands account for 82% of the country’s arable land, according to IRRI, the International Rice Research Institute. About 52% of Vietnam’s rice is produced in the Mekong River Delta, popularly known as the "Rice Bowl" of Vietnam, and another 18% in the Red River Delta. With a bumper crop and good export prices, Vietnam’s rice export volume and turnover have exceeded Thailand’s, making the former the second largest exporter amid the Covid-19 crisis.

Kien Giang

Kien Giang is the country’s largest rice producing province with around 722,000 ha. The province boasts the largest rice-shrimp production area in the Mekong Delta region, covering an area of over 102,000 hectares. These integrated areas are predominantly located in the U Minh Thuong region, which is highly conducive to organic rice production.

An Giang

The Mekong Delta province of An Giang is known as the second largest rice producer in Vietnam (after Kien Giang province), owning nearly 640,000 hectares for rice growing. The province is famous for pineapple as well.

Soc Trang

Sóc Trang, which is one of the delta’s leading provinces in implementing high-tech shrimp farming, has bred more than 50,100ha of brackish water shrimp so far this year, meeting 98 per cent of its target. The province is famous for passion fruit, longan, and rice as well with 330,381ha of rice.
